More political theatre from the Sinn Féiners which shows how devoid of ideas they are.
The purpose of all this is to give the appearance that they are leading the charge for a referendum on Irish Unity.
The Sinn Féiners know it won't it happen until the British and they alone decide it happens, because that's what they signed up to in the so called GFA.
As I've repeatedly pointed out, they recently signed up to a document in which the British made it perfectly clear that they were commented to strengthening 'NI's place in the Union and that they will never be neutral on this issue.
The document states that this is a position held on a broad cross-party basis in Parliament.
It also states that:
it is their belief following the restoration of the devolved institutions that NI's future in the UK will be secure for decades to come and as such the conditions for a border poll are unlikely to be objectively met.
The Sinn Féiners signed up on this in order to get the Unionists back into Stormont so that Michelle O'Neill could become the Colonial First Minister, knowing that it was ruling out any referendum for decades to come, if ever.
They are the party fighting the hardest to keep 'the devolved institutions' up and doing nothing whatsoever, so why should the British be concerned that they are pulling old ideas out of the sock drawer every so often as long as there's a sign of life in Stormont?

Andy Burnham's comments in Belfast today where he basically said 'fuck the referendum' underscore the lack of strategic control SF has. Power resides where it always has - London. What was demonstrated today was that formal power and real power are two very different things. SF is left looking like empty suits. Stormont is just a transmission belt for British state policy. The Dublin government will breathe a huge sigh of relief that the British made the statement rather than themselves. Wonder if he will he give SF Casement to mollify them and wipe the grin of DUP faces.

Also, I spotted the tricolour has been used to drape the coffins of some of the tinkers killed in the recent motorway carnage. There's an odd pathos emerging which perhaps reflects where traditional Republican ideals have ended up.
Any ideas Burnham would be a more progressive Brit PM regarding the Six-Counties were blown out of the water yesterday when he indicated Irish unity was "off the table". Burnham is a unionist equal to any Tory, Lib-Dem, or Reform leader and (P) Sinn Fein have been told to shut the fuck up. The so-called 'Legislative Assembly is nothing more than a glorified local authority with possibly less powers than Greater Manchester. Burnham only looked in any way progressive by comparison with the alternatives, Farage and Badenoch, and must never be viewed in any way a friend of Irish unification. Little wonder DUP leader Gavin Robinson was "delighted" with Burnhams pro union comments.
ReplyDeleteAnd not a solitary Republican has asked why Burnham would take this position and why he instead continues what has been writ large from the UK for decades. There's an awful lot of finger pointing and blame apportioning as far as I can see amongst most Republicans towards the notion of 'perfidious Albion' rather than look at it from the UK's security apparatus viewpoint. Listen carefully to John Crawley. Nothing changes if the spooks deem it not in their interest.
ReplyDeleteI'd also wager these same spooks cannot possibly believe how well their strategy worked to the extent they now have Northern Sinn Fein trying so very hard to make Northern Ireland 'work'. Not that they'd put all their eggs in one basket. Not hard to work out who is in their pay in the Dail. Oh what a tangled web we weave...

I could say the same of Unionists regarding Jeremy Corbyns United Ireland position. Not one "solitary" unionist has asked why Corbyn would take such a stance.
