On May 8, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) released the single ‘Heil Hitler,’ which includes the refrain: “Nigga, Heil Hitler.”

On a recent podcast discussion with Nazi apologist Nick Fuentes, one of the allegedly conservative Hodge twins mused that “Hitler was right” while the other cackled. As former MMA fighter and podcaster Jake Shields put it bluntly on X on May 9: “Why do you think Adolf Hitler has become so popular over the past two years?”

It’s a question worth answering. The Venn Diagram overlap between major podcasters with massive audiences and figures with once-fringe views is growing by the week. Antisemites have used Israel’s war in Gaza to claim that they are actually anti-Zionists and to spread Jew-hatred in its most potent, unalloyed forms. At times, it seems as if the Overton window is shifting so swiftly you can hear it move.

British conservative journalist and author Douglas Murray found himself at the center of this debate recently when he told Joe Rogan and comedian Dave Smith that they were playing a dangerous game by consistently platforming purveyors of historical counternarratives. At some point, Murray noted, “It’s not just asking questions, it’s telling people something.” Smith spent the better part of a week responding to Murray’s claims, stating, at one point, that: “Nobody has gone on Joe Rogan’s show and downplayed the Nazi atrocities.”

  1. What a ridiculous article that desperately tries to conflate anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism as much as it protests otherwise. A quick google shows the author and reason.

    1. Steve, it does not automatically conflate Antisemitism and Antizionism but gives plenty of examples where hostility to Israel transgresses precisely those boundaries

    2. Is it any wonder there is confusion between AntiZionism and Antisemitism when Israel uses a deliberately confusing dual contruct of citizenship and nationality.
In fact since 2018 legislation has defined Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people. Furthermore their Supreme Court has ruled that an Israeli nationality does not exist!
And yet some people continue to overlook or defend these structural flaws.

  2. Have just done a Google search and yes he looks to be an anti-choice God botherer which I would not have guessed from the article.

    1. People's perceptions are saturated with their values!

  3. Beyond parody Barry..

" Dave Smith is not an antisemite, but he appears happy to podcast with Holocaust deniers and Jew-haters. He has every right to do so. But he should own it"

Anyone with a mild interest in comedy would instantly know that not only is Dave Smith Jewish, but his grandparents were Holocaust survivors. If anyone has the right to critcise Israel it would be him. The author appears not to have done a bit of research before putting that pish to parchment.

  4. Steve, it's not Smith's right to criticize Israel that is being denied, but his association with manifest Jew-haters like Jake Shields, of "I don't think a single Jew died in gas chambers" fame.

That Smith does so is appalling. His Jewish credentials do not excuse it. Cuddling up to your oppressors is cowardice. He should be making valid criticisms of Israel, not associating with those who would gladly see the Jews cleansed from Israel and returned to exile and its inevitable pogroms.

    1. Wolfie - flip that and you find people associating with Netanyahu who is daily committing atrocity. Jake Shields is obnoxious but no more so than those who are genocide deniers.
I am glad that you think valid criticisms can be made of Israel. Too many are willing to equate criticism of Israel with antisemitism. How opposing the endless massacre of children is antisemitic defies logic. When I lash out at Jewish children being slaughtered I am disdainful of those who claim I am undermining Palestinians.
The needle is moving on this, with allies being sharply critical of Netanyahu's murder policy.

  5. And meanwhile in the Gaza Strip!!!!

Debating Anti-Semitism at this tragic point for the citizens of Gaza is misdirection and/or avoidance. Those pursuing such an immoral and cowardly path at this critical time are not worthy of any thinking or decent person's time.
Other people's words are secondary to what's happening, and happening largely before the world's eyes. Don't get sucked into diversionary tactics.

    1. Henry Joy, the war crimes and crimes against humanity unfolding in Gaza should no more shut down discussion on antisemitism than should ISIS atrocities or those of the Iranian mullahs be used to shut down discussion on anti-Muslim racism. Cancel culture is anathema to the ethos of this weblog

    2. Barry - Henry Joy did not advocate closing down debate on antisemitism. He did suggest that people should prioritise. He did not call for anybody to be cancelled. Antisemitism is abhorrent but it still does not equate with genocide. The latter is a much more heinous crime. There is no symmetry there.

  6. Such discussion at this point in time is a distraction, it's diversionary, and it's misdirection.
"Anti-Semitism" is currently the stock-in-trade rebuttal of Netanyahu and his henchmen. Or hadn't you noticed?

    1. While real, it is very much put out as a smokescreen to distract and divert.
