I think even atheists might acknowledge that a world without Schuberts Ave Maria or the Sistine Chapel would not be as rich. Even those who reject the tenets of the faith can immerse themselves in the beauty that it inspires. That is not to say there is nothing in the cost side of the ledger, even the best intended ideologies have entries there. But very few also inspire such profound beauty. It brings us to that which makes us most human in a way quite separate from the texts.
