Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig ★ Presidential elections are rarely as politically charged as the one happening tomorrow in our, so called, Republic.

In the, controversially now, two horse race, we have a Left candidate in Catherine Connolly who views the world from the perspective of humanity, equality, peace and a people driven democracy. In the opposite corner we have a candidate who is the Fianna Fáil/ Fine Gail front, and the darling of wealth and power, Heather Humphreys. Fianna Fáil, Fine Gail, the powerful and wealthy and Heather All support war, ending neutrality, a housing and health crisis, capitalism, silence on genocide in Palestine, supporting Zionist Israel and so on.

Catherine Connolly is diametrically opposed to all of this. And therein lies the political conflict. But there is another conflict, a localised one. This transpired from the initial Fianna Fáil candidate, Jim Gavin, being forced to drop out of the Presidential campaign. The ruling class panicked. They decided that to try to block Catherine Connolly being elected that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael would join forces and both back Heather. So the ruling parties of power and wealth are lined up against the Left and working class candidate. But there's a price for this. There is no Fianna Fáil and Fine Gail any more; and in fact there hasn't been for a very long time. We know all about Tweedledee and Tweedledum politics in the 26 counties. To retain the ruling class power the two main parties have exposed what everyone already knew. There Is No difference between them. They have always taken all the bread and threw us the crumbs from their wealthy tables.

Why not do the decent thing then and become one party. . . .  of the rich and powerful? And tell your party members and supporters, that the 'gravy train' must be protected, at all or any cost. At least be honest for once about what both parties actually stand for: the powerful and wealthy. The electorate are not fools. Asking Fianna Fáil voters to vote for a Blue Shirt, is a step too far. Those in Fianna Fáil locally and the 26 Counties, really need to think hard as to where they stand within their party. You have been sold out to those who are intent on destroying the people of Ireland. It is long past the time for change . . . Real Change
