The main difference in public mood between the two fatal events was that the first was grief-driven while the latter was an outburst of molten rage. Let down by just about everybody in authority Baby P's life was nasty, brutish and short.
The child's killer was Steven Barker, a vicious thug described as his stepfather. Barker was also convicted in a separate trial of raping a two year old child. He remains in prison having yesterday been denied parole for a fifth time.
Hopefully, at some point in the future we shall hear that he has been denied it for a twenty fifth time.

Just after the trial, TPQ covered the death of Baby P. In one article the monster who was described in the media as the murdered child's mother was referred to as Mommy Dreadful. Tracey Connelly is one of those people best described as an absolute waste of space. She was an accomplice in the torture and murder of her 17 month old baby who despite his condition, still managed to raise a smile for a social worker four days before his murder:
It is never pleasant to retrace the life and death of Peter Connelly because the torment he underwent is so horrific, something we have come to associate with Israeli Defence Force-types as they set about torturing and murdering the children of Gaza. The pain this helpless, innocent child was subjected to in the house of horrors where he existed is unimaginable.
The heartbreaking thing is Baby P smiled at the woman. Sitting in that buggy with his back broken, eight broken ribs, fingernails missing, toenail missing and a nappy full of excrement and he still managed a smile.

Last month, it was revealed that Tracey Connelly had been recalled to prison for a second time, alleged to be in breach of the terms of her licence.
Sentenced in 2009 to an indeterminate sentence of which it was stipulated she serve only a minimum of five years, Connelly was retuned to prison in 2015 after 'cashing in on her notoriety by selling naked photos of herself online to male fans'. With the ethics of a money grabbing televangelist, she believed she could turn a quick pound from collectors of monster memorabilia.
Released again in 2022 she finds herself once again banged up. It is rare that I can ever be found in agreement with the Tories but Dominic Raab called it right when he described Connelly as pure evil.
Sharing Nietzsche's view to beware those in whom the desire to punish is strong, and generally not favouring imprisonment for any purpose other than it being a shield to protect society and its citizens from the most ferocious predators, I could not bring myself to object if Tracey Connelly were to spend every day of her waster's life behind bars. Peter Saunders, CEO of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, stated 'obviously, we don't and we can't jail these people who commit these dreadful crimes for the rest of their lives.' Well, you can when the offence is as heinous as Connelly's, inflicted on the most helpless of children.
The British writer H.H. Munro more than a century ago wrote about a type of character 'who would be enormously improved by death.’ Hard to think that Connelly is not one of them. Hold a fiend under water long enough and they stop being a fiend.

It's hard to see any worth in lives such as these.
