Even if one person sees this who otherwise wouldn't, it will be a valuable post.
It's an example of total war, much like Guernica but on a larger scale and over a longer time period. Horrific stuff.
Those killed in Gaza in less than a year by one side number over ten the times those killed by all parties to the Northern Ireland conflict in thirty years and not even a fraction of a percentage of the effort expended on ending the Troubles is directed at stopping the slaughter. Total disgrace.
I doubt very much they'll be able to clear that rubble up. Moving the concrete would be a monumental task and that together with the poison left behind by the bombs will make it uninhabitable. Unmercifully wiped out in a manner and intention to ethnically cleanse the region. Genocide without doubt. The sooner arrest warrants are issued the better.
It is also like the state of Homs, Aleppo and Grozny after Assad and Putin respectively unleashed their weapons from the air. Arrest warrants all round.
Barry, you always present yourself as an intelligent person, albeit one who finds it difficult to restrain himself and who consistently stands up for the genocidal state of Israel, so you should know your comment is a classic textbook case of whataboutery.
If you said arrest warrants should be issued to those members of Hamas who were responsible for war crimes I'd have to agree. We'd be talking about the same conflict and it wouldn't have been whataboutery but here we are. You're trying to widen the debate away from Israel's crimes, to distract, and it shows.
Simon, I believe arrest warrants should be issued for both Israeli and Hamas war crimes perpetrators. When I compare the destruction of Gaza to that of Aleppo and Grozny, is it any less a valid comparison to that of Dresden and Leningrad. Once again, you deploy the slur that I "always stand up for the genocidal state of Israel" for which you can give no evidence apart from possibly my pointing out of nuances in the conflict e.g. that Jews and Arabs have rights in Palestine. I will stop now before I say something that I may regret. Good night.
Barry. Anthony and Frankie were comparing Palestine to Warsaw, Stalingrad and Dresden. Short comparisons with past wars. Concise and to the point. No possibility of arrest warrants as they happened so long ago. Your comment on the other hand wasn't a mere comparison but an example of whataboutery. What about Assad and Putin you cry, surely they should be subject to arrest warrants too?
Yes a completely different case than the two comments before. Anthony and Frankie's posts were designed to shine the light on Israel and yours to shine the light on anybody but Israel.
The key difference is the attempt to widen the debate to other present day wars. If you think it is a slur to say you support Israel ask anyone who reads the Quill if any of the other contributors are more pro-Israel than you. A slur has to be false to be a slur. No-one is saying you give Israel a blank cheque, that would be Joe Biden. You speak out against atrocities but despite your poor attempt at subtlety your support isn't lost on anyone.
Simon, I support the existence of Israel alongside the admittedly deteriorating possibility of a fully independent state of Palestine. This is not endorsement of the occupation of and settlements on the West Bank and the conduct of the Gaza War. And it's certainly not support for genocide as you implied despicably .
Simon, your stridency, lack of subtlety and righteous guilt tripping admits of no room for understanding of nuance or anything that challenges your narrative.
About Aleppo and Grozny, it should be pointed out that certain "pro-Palestinian" or more accurately antizionist outfits like the Grayzone and David Miller and Chris Williamson of Press TV in Tehran are Assad apologists and cover for Putin's war in Ukraine
As it happens, Simon, both Assad and Putin are subject to arrest warrants as Netanayu and Hamas leaders will hopefully soon be subject to. But while Netanayu is also a fugitive from justice at home, there is no chance of Assad and Putin having their dates in the dock.

Looks like Warsaw or Stalingrad after Nazi bombing
ReplyDeleteOr Dresden after the Allies bombed the town..
