Gavin Casey ✒ I encountered an entity online recently who described the LGBTQ community as a ‘cult’.

They would go on to describe the ‘Fascist’ nature of said humans’ campaign for the same basic human rights which should be afforded to all. When ‘how god made’ them and ‘nature’ entered into the opposing ‘argument’ I realised there would be more point debating with one of the bullocks in my Da’s cattle shed.

I reject the idea of god but I’ve a degree in Biochemistry so I think I’ve gained something of an understanding of nature. Bigots routinely describe LGBTQ as a 'lifestyle choice' when for the most part it's a natural consequence of genetic makeup. As such LGBTQ people are no more abnormal or unnatural than blue-eyed or brown-haired people. To describe their community as a 'cult' is no different to describing brown eyed people as a cult, in my opinion.

Fundamentally, everything exhibits in spectrums. We learn about the atomic spectrum in school whereby atoms can be identified by the characteristic energy patterns of electrons. Indeed, many contributors to or readers of this site may well have become uncomfortably aware of the application of this science; particularly in the case of electron microscopes in forensic science.

Bill Hicks described reality perfectly, in my opinion, when he said: “All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration.”

The autism spectrum is something most people are familiar with - everyone is on it to a greater or lesser degree. But this is also the case with every spectrum and all natural characteristics exhibit as spectrums; hair colour, height, voice, intelligence and sexuality to name but a few. The list is all-encompassing in my perspective.

So, considering sexuality, everyone is somewhere on the spectrum on the basis of their genetic makeup. Some people are naturally, totally heterosexual while others are naturally totally homosexual. But it’s not a yes / no binary situation as many people are on the spectrum somewhere in between.

The same is true for sexual identity in that one's sex is determined by the XY chromosomes where XX is female and XY is male but it’s not that simple. Chromosomal pairing is the result of complex biochemical interactions and often this, naturally, results in pairings which are not as clearly defined. Trans people are people, no different to anyone else and equally deserving of the same human rights.

In conclusion, in my view, LGBTQ people are people born with natural human characteristics no different to hair, skin or eye colour. Progressive humans reject doctrines and ideas which discriminate against people on the basis of skin colour because such discrimination is a crime against nature and humanity. Sexual preference and identification is no different.

Sexual Discrimination Is A Crime Against Nature

  1. But of course you can never change an XY to an XX.

    1. The genotype, as in the genetic makeup of the chromosomes, can't be changed but the phenotype, the manner in which the genes are expressed can be. Everyone is a mix of female and male characteristic to a greater or lesser degree based on their genetic makeup. Some people are even born with both male and female genitalia. One's genetic makeup determines the proteins and hormones which are produced and some people are biochemically different than the physical state they develop in. Should said people wish to transition to a physical state which better suits their mental and emotional well-being I would consider that a basic human right.

    2. People can do what they like to themselves, they should be protected by human rights above all. But I'm not going along with their belief that they are actually the opposite sex, gender dysmorphia is their problem, not societies.

  2. Trans-sexuality is a scientifically-recognised state of being, not a belief or an opinion.
I don't consider trans-sexual people, gay people, people of different physical characteristics, or any people who have a natural state of being which apparently differs from me to be a problem for me, society or indeed themselves.

    1. My one concern with it is the attempt by its advocates to close down discussion.

    2. Sexuality is just a preference. As long as it's consensual, go for your life. What I'm talking about is the nonsense that a male and female can change BIOLOGICAL sex by wishful thinking and bodily mutilation or ingesting various chemicals. Surely a person with a degree in Biochemistry can agree with that? It's encoded in our DNA which is accepted in court, and we can even dig up bones 1000's of years old and tell just by looking at the pelvis whether they are male and female.

  3. When you consider the intransigent nature of opposition faced by gay and trans people from bigots here, in America and many other regions it's not surprising. My most recent trip to America, close observation of American news and current affairs and online interaction with bigots in regard to comments written by a neighbour who is gay prompted me to write the article.

    1. I think that is the excuse the ire brigade uses rather than the reason. I suspect that at heart the urge to dominate is what drives the suppression of an alternative view on the matter. They end up mirroring those they seek to silence in their intransigent bigotry towards difference expressed through free inquiry.
