Peter Anderson ⚽ As a City fan looking at possible banana skins in Liverpool's run in, I was particularly looking at the consecutive home games against Man U and Everton.

The pundits on TV all said that it would be a breeze for Liverpool given the heights that Klopp's men have reached compared to the disaster zones that Old Trafford and Goodison currently are. I tended to agree, but in the back of my mind I was hopeful that given the size of the derby for both clubs, that maybe one of them would play above their level and catch Liverpool on a bad day. I mean, Solksjaer beat City not that long ago with this squad. I was wrong to be hopeful.

Man U did not even bother to turn up. So pathetic have they become that while they managed to field 11 players, they were no better than tailor's dummies. A few days after the game Man U announced the signing of Dutch coach Ten Hag for next season. What a job he has! Currently United sit in 6th place and have almost zero chance of UCL football next season, making attracting new players extremely difficult and reducing the size of their income. With the stadium crumbling and the training ground similarly aging badly, incompetence in the recruitment team, and the owner taking out £25m in dividends per season, very few people are giving the new coach much chance of a quick turnaround of the once mighty, dominant club.

While Everton also face multiple systemic problems, at least Fat Frank got them to turn up at Anfield. For 60 minutes they frustrated and tormented the usually fluent Reds before succumbing to some Salah trickery that set up Robertson for the breakthrough goal. They put in a great effort and showed up United's crass betrayal of their fans. Everton deserved something from the game, but just didn't have the quality when it was needed. That result and Burnley's win earlier in the day means that the Toffees end the week in the bottom 3. Currently I would put them as favourites to join Watford and Norwich in the Championship next season as Leeds have 4 points more and Burnley have found some form.

Everton's next game is a must win game and it is against Chelsea. Like United recruitment has been awful. Liverpool and Man City identify their targets and do their homework before moving to buy. If they can't secure the signing, then they wait. For United and Everton, it is all scattergun. You'll do rightly! Precious money is wasted on players that don't fit the profile or just aren't good enough. I would hate to be a fan of these two clubs at the moment, but at least Everton have some pride left.

So, the wait for a banana skin goes on. Liverpool travel to a resurgent Newcastle, then host the erratic Spurs. Fingers crossed.

    1. Seems the other class of '92 once again have proven their class and all three are in the semi finals of the world snooker championship....I want the Irishman O'Sullivan to win.

  2. A wee nod to us wouldn't go amiss. A season fraught with turmoil off the pitch and Tuchel still has us on course for Champions League next term. Madrid's 3 goals in Manchester will be City's undoing.

Yous are nailed on for 3rd and hopefully will do the bin dippers in the FA cup final. That would be a good season considering.

Away goals no longer count and with Cancelo and Walker back I think we'll do them in the Bernabeú

    1. Forgot about that, why'd they change away goals? Be tough regardless though we chinned them there so you have a chance.
