One day after Biden called for senators to change filibuster rules to overcome the Senate Republicans’ blockade against voting rights legislation, former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee claimed that the “effort to kill the filibuster and federalize elections” is “a blatant attempt to abuse power.” He said that while My Faith Votes recruits and plans to mobilize “an army of Christian voters for 2022,” the group “must also flex our grassroots muscle to keep the Senate from making a very dangerous mistake.” My Faith Votes has backed recent Republican voter suppression efforts in the name of “election integrity.”

  1. What is most worrisome is that approximately half the USA is living in an alternate reality. In solidarity with the other half the rest of us are suffering from post trump-atic stress syndrome from how unreality has been weaponised.

  2. Yet another piece highlighting so called right wing bogeymen. Trump has been out of office for a year now, well past time to lose the Trump derangement syndrome. Democrats hold the presidency, House and Senate and the past year has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster for this country. This current president is a senile old fool who has done nothing but divide and fail at every single thing he touches. Crime and murders are skyrocketing, inflation is out of control, shelves in supermarkets are missing half their stock, the border is wide open with hundreds of thousands streaming in. And oh yes the Afghanistan pullout was a national disgrace. This pathetic President's approval rating is down to 33% which means people of all political views are realizing how truly inept and awful this man is. (But let's keep blaming Trump)

These "so called right wing bogeymen" still refuse to accept the legitimacy of Joe Biden's victory; control the Republican Party and are mobilising to ensure their place men and women to electoral official posts in key states and to remove African Americans from electoral so to ensure a Trump or some other far right figure in 2024.

That is why American democracy may possibly be in mortal peril.

  3. Barry,

Why do you find it impossible to believe the Democrats wouldn't fix an election? They have form. Didn't JFK get elected because his daddy's friends in La Costa Nostra fixed certain states for him? I often wonder if the #MeToo movement was around in 1960 what they'd made of two Irish American Catholic boy's banging Las Vegas show girls 10 to the dozen behind their wives/partners backs or what they'd have made of how Marilyn Monroe was used and abused by both of them.....

Why do you gloss over the Podesta/Clinton email leak (I believe Seth Rich was the leak and he paid for with his life)....They (emails) show how John Podesta covered up the rape of minors with the Accorn scandal, how Podesta covered up for Anthony Weiner's grooming of young girls twice (once when Weiner was a Dem. Congressman and the other when Weiner was running to be mayor of New York) Or how he was one of the faces behind writing a letter to help Laura Silsby who was charged with sex trafficking 33 kids from the 2010 haitian earthquake. And I haven't forgot how in the emails they mention having young children in the pool for entertainment or how HIllary's aides practice Moloch worship....
Keep ranting Barry about The Donald. What you can't do is refute anything I have said.

  4. Barry did Hillary accept Trump's victory in 2016? No instead we went through four years of that utter nonsense Russia hoax and the ridiculous Steele Dossier. All a total hoax. There is no voting issue in the US. Everyone 18 and over with no felony conviction can vote and 165 million did in 2020. It couldn't be more easy, polling stations every few blocks, walk in present your ID and vote. I have never heard anyone in my life complain that it is hard to vote in the US.

The Democrats most certainly did accept Trump's election and facilitated the transition and inauguration of him in January 2017 as is normal in democracies. Trump most certainly did not accept his defeat and did everything he could to prevent the orderly transition of power to the Biden Presidency. This is the crux of the debate about the threat of Trumpism to US democracy and it is one that you glaringly ignore.

I take it you have not heard of (or wish to deny) the attempts at voter suppression being made by Republicans at state levels.

Trump was claiming in 2016 that if he lost it was a rigged vote. His convict pal Stone coined the slogan Stop the Steal back then but was shelved because they got a fluked win against the odds. All wrong doing and underhanded attempts at rigging votes uncovered about the 2020 elections are turning out to be organised by Republicans. It requires rigid denial of the truth to support or defend Trump. And to believe him requires living in a mindset that is based in unreality.

    1. Christy,

What I'm pointing out is Democrats are just as sleazy as Republicans. And that's what you and Barry either tend to forget, fail to mention or gloss over....I'm just making the playing field level..

Apart from creepy Joe being a bumbling fool, his VP when she was a state prosecutor with held evidence that kept an innocent man in prison for 18yrs for a murder he didn't commit. And thats not the only time she done that...

I am not a Trump supporter but he was great entertainment. A 70 yr old man with a fake tan and a bad hair cut singing everyone is going to YMCA at a political rally...Comedy gold. And throw into the mix along the southern border of the US illegal immigrants are flooding into the USA almost at free will, the homeless crisis in LA, San Fran and New York has exploded under Biden..When The Donald was at the helm Russian wasn't building up troops along the Ukrainian border and Kim was firing rockets towards Japan but talking...Don't get me started in direct links between China and the Democrats...

There is no comparison, no level playing field. All parties might steal a few votes here and there. What you are defending is an attempt at the complete destruction of democracy for a dictator. When in office Trump began to talk about holding on to power even after his term of office expired and even having his mug added to mount Rushmore. He pardoned his convict friends and filled high office with his goons/family like no previous President ever has. Currently American democracy is hanging in the balance and if the US is no longer a democratic society how will that impact upon other democracies?

  6. Whatever way you want to cut it over 70 million people voted for Trump, who was a sitting POTUS.
Within short-order he'd been banned from most social media and I can't even remember a mainstream outlet interviewing him after the election loss? Maybe I missed it.

But the colossal ego that is Trump will be hell-bent on returning to office, and he will be vengeful, spiteful and merciless.

And let's face it, he's up against a geriatric with cognitive issues and a black woman who's history shows she is full of contradictions.

No doubt he will be sharpening his swords in the wings.
