Peter Anderson ⚽If you consider Liverpool's last two games: home to City and away to Watford, you might imagine that the main talking points were City's dominance, the Milner VAR episode and Bobby Firmino's hattrick.

But there were two stats from both games that are, arguably, more pertinent: both games contained a goal and an assist from Mo Salah; but not just any goal or any assist. In fact, both of his goals and assists were exquisite. Against City he picked up the ball in midfield, held off a challenge and raced towards goal providing a perfect through ball for Sadio Mané to score. Later in the game, he got the ball on the edge of the box, danced his way through the defence and slotted the keeper to score a wonder goal from the top drawer.

Against Watford he repeated the same. This time his through ball to Mané was from the outside of his left boot and was just sublime. Against City he scored with his right foot, against Watford he shaped to hit it with his right then pivoted to his left, sitting Craig Cathcart on his arse, and stroked the ball home with his left. Both assists for Mané and both his goals were of incredible quality. I can't decide which one was better. He jigged past the defenders like they weren't there! We all knew he possessed these powers but we haven't seen this form for a few seasons.

The plaudits are piling in, with the inevitable comparisons to Messi and Ronaldo, but the worrying thing for Scousers is that he still hasn't signed a new contract. Every day there are reports in the newspapers of interest from PSG and Real Madrid. This leaves Liverpool in a difficult situation. Salah is 29, how many years does he have left at this level? Would it be better to cash in next summer or January 2023? Jamie Carragher, the Sky sports pundit and ex-Liverpool legend, is adamant that Liverpool must pin him down and offer whatever he wants. On this form it would hard to argue against that. At the moment, he is the best player in the world.

Next up for Liverpool in the EPL is an away trip to Old Trafford, and with the pressure piling up on top of Ole Solksjaer, he will have to find a way to stop Salah. On this form I don't think that will be possible.

The game is live on Sky next Sunday at 4:30, don't miss it.

  1. Two outstanding goals - lightning struck defenders twice in the penalty box.
Still, I find the exorbitant demands of millionaires for more millions, deeply unedifying.

    1. I would let him go rather than continue in this cycle of endlessly rewarding the rich. I know the problems that might cause but when I think of the much more worthy projects that half a million a week can be spent on. As much as I love soccer and have had an affection for Liverpool since first seeing them in 1968, I baulk at seeing money going towards making the rich richer.

  3. Lfc squad contains many 30 yr olds. Selling Mo for £ 💯 mill ➕ would be shrewd business. Money could be used to purchase three or four players. If the Reds win a big 🏆 this season, it would be a fine way for Mo to bow out. A M & M U will be sterner tests than the three relegation teams that the Reds have disposed of.
The Barcodes 🏁 will finish fourth in 2023 , if they appoint 93 points Conte & give him ⛽ money. O G S could be out of a job by Sunday night. Maybe the Italian will be Manc U bound ❓
