Statement By The Family Members Of Abimael Guzmán Reinoso

With our hearts broken by the death of our beloved son and brother, Dr. Abimael Guzmán, we hold those who correspond from the Peruvian State and the Navy responsible for the crime they have committed.

Dr. Guzmán has been kept under permanent torture for 29 years, completely isolated in a military dungeon and intentionally causing him a progressive deterioration of his health. He has been denied the unrestricted right of every prisoner to a family visit, in particular of his wife, Professor Elena Yparraguirre, as well as to humanitarian and timely medical care.

In recent times they have increased their perfidy and premeditated thirst for revenge against him, seeking his total defenselessness, persecuting and imprisoning his lawyers. In his last days, despite his advanced age as an elderly adult and his serious state of health, his wife was prohibited from seeing and assisting him as she had repeatedly requested.

Then they have infamously unleashed a cowardly and unfounded campaign of insults through their most backward political representatives and their most abject press and TV and they threaten to persecute, repress and arrest those who exercise their right to express themselves and denounce these sinister plans of undemocratic dictatorships.

We extend our deepest feelings and condolences to Mrs. Elena Yparraguirre and to the Peruvian people for the painful death of Dr. Guzmán. We demand that the Peruvian State comply with the laws so that his wife can verify his death and that she be the one who determines the fate of his final rest!

Honor and eternal glory to Dr. Abimael Guzmán!

  2. Intolerable prison conditions no doubt. But hasn't this guy his own sordid record as leader of the Shining Path militant group in Paru? Aren't they known for targeting civilians at random and boiling babies to death?

    1. don't know about boiling babies but they had an atrocious human rights record. This is what totalitarian ideologies produce. There is a great film about the treatment of Tupamaros prisoners in Uruguay during the 70s and 80s. Much worse than what we experienced during the blanket.

  3. What happened across Latin America was worse over all than here and indigenous tribes are still being targeted.

According to this site they didn't boil babies bit "They did, apparently, use scalding water as a method of execution, along with stones and machetes." https://blacklikemao.medium.com/on-boiling-babies-combating-bourgeois-and-dogmato-revisionist-myths-about-the-communist-party-1bdb5a366ad6

    1. that makes them pretty much like Isis - not all that surprising given that religious orthodoxy is another form of ideological rigidity.
