Peter Anderson ⚽ Another week into the Premier League and we are beginning to see how this season may play out.

The big match of the weekend saw unbeaten Chelsea travel to Anfield and as I suspected Chelsea looked the stronger of the sides - until Reece James saw red for a deliberate handball and Salah equalised from the spot.

The second half saw the introduction of Thiago Silva and Chelsea shut up shop to preserve their draw. Chelsea looked much better than Liverpool until the sending off, and will take some stopping if they are not to lift the league title. Liverpool looked jaded. With no big signings and no rumours of such, I can't see them pushing for the title this season. Though it is still early days, of course.

Man City blew away Arsenal as expected. They didn't sign Kane nor did they sign Ronaldo, but Torres and Jesus have started the season on cracking form. Personally, I am glad we signed neither: Kane is 29 next week and has dodgy ankles, while Ronaldo wants £50 million in salary for 24 months' work. Neither are worth it. Give Torres and Jesus their chance, we already have signed Grealish.

So, Ronaldo returns to Man U, where he made his name, this really does crank up the pressure on Ole Solksjaer. An awful Man U scraped past Wolves on Sunday simply because Wolves couldn't finish one of the host of chances they had, and United nicked it at the end after a goalkeeping mistake let Greenwood net an unlikely winner. With CR7 on the books there will be no more excuses for Ole, he must challenge for the League and win a cup at least. Can he rise to the challenge? It will be fun to watch.

At this early stage of the season, it looks like Chelsea are favourites with the Manchester clubs fighting for second and Liverpool in fourth. Though Spurs may have something to say about that. They sit proud at the top of the EPL with 3 wins out of 3. Kane has pledged his full efforts for the club and Son looks as menacing as ever. The fans are loving it at the moment as they sit top and Arsenal sit at the bottom.

The international break came at the right time for Arteta. If he doesn't turn the ship around soon, he will be out of a job quick smart. The international break may have come at the right time for Arteta, but not for me. I do hate these damned breaks depriving us of EPL action!

Chelsea Looking Good

  1. I thought Chelsea and Liverpool looked pretty much even before James got send off, despite the great Chelsea goal. Where Liverpool were exposed was after the sending off when they simply failed to penetrate, leaving little room for doubt had James not have gone (I thought the outcome was harsh) Chelsea would have taken all three points.
Nor do I think Man City can be written off just as quickly. They moreso than Chelsea are the team to beat. I am not sure that Liverpool will improve on their position in the top four from last season - and that was pretty much a bad run out for them. Team to watch - West Ham. You did a good piece on them a while back and Moyes is certainly putting together what might be a new Leicester from about 5 years back - a dark horse.
Why feed Ronaldo's greed? That money could be better spent on a younger player with a longer future in front of him.

Almost all teams struggle at Anfield, Chelsea didn't until the red card. Without the red I think they would have won comfortably. The red was harsh, it was a reflex action not a pre-meditated one. A pen and a yellow would have sufficed.
I'm not righting City off just yet, they are playing well and have KdB and Foden yet to return. I just think at this early stage the most likely is Chelsea. I'm quite happy to be proved wrong!
I wouldn't be surprised if the Hammmers finished above Liverpool this season, they look the real deal. I'm so glad the fans are back in the stadium, last season I turned over the channel so many times after 20 mins or so.

  3. Lfc have made a profit of £ 🔟 mill this window. With lots of players around 30 yrs old, Fsg will have to do a lot better than 2021 when just one player was bought. Fsg are playing for fourth spot.
Chelsea will concede very few goals and are my title favourites.
Man Utd have shown lots of ambition & may grab second.

  4. I'm undecided on the Red but no doubt it was a pen. Our squad look a lot happier now under TT than Lamps and a lot more positive going forward. still young but the futures bright.

Man City will walk the title again.

Manure Utd will break even on merch with Ronaldo back so economically it was a no brainer.

Liverpool....?....unexciting which is odd. I expected them to bring a top class forward in but did they get turned down?

And let's not forget to laugh at Arsenal. Arteta will be arsed after the next loss.
