Phew... For about 15 minutes last night I thought the Italians had taken stage fright. Then they woke up and came storming back and it was a surprise that the game got as far as penalties.
The Azzurri didn't just beat the English cheats - the only time I saw Sterling last night, he was diving. Most of all their victory was a victory over the scumbag English fans who mocked the little German girl as she cried for her country's team and who threatened and abused the Welsh Man on Twitter who raised money for her.

Remember this piece of arrogance from three years ago...
L'Italia è campione...
I was talking to my son about this yesterday, we were both baffled why they would chose to mock a little girl and spew vile racism at their own players. But a thought occurred to him that a lot of racist stuff was said online and could well be be bad actors stirring the pot like the Russians do with the Yanks all the time. No doubt there are some ar*ewipes in the crowd though. I told him my thinking on the English was this. One by himself is grand, two become insular and three become aggressively so. By contrast the rest of us are amiable, when there's 2 we go to the pub and 3 or more end up pissed singing in the same pub!
ReplyDeleteThe Germany incident I didn't know about but it's disgusting. I imagine the scenes at Wembley will have gone some way to ending all hope of an Anglo-Irish bid for the world cup. Like most of us I was delighted to see Italy lift the trophy and I spent much of Monday watching YouTube videos in astonishment yet in many ways unsurprised at the behaviour of England fans both off and online. To be honest, and I say this as a football fan, I'm glad it's over
