Indian women India executed four men on Friday for the gang-rape and murder of a woman on a Delhi bus in 2012 that sparked huge nationwide protests and international revulsion.
The four were hanged before dawn at Tihar Jail in the Indian capital, the head of the prison, Sandeep Goel, told AFP, in India's first execution since 2015.
"All four convicts (were) hanged at 5:30 am," Goel said.
The brutal attack on Jyoti Singh sparked weeks of demonstrations and shone a spotlight on the alarming rates of sexual violence and the plight of women in India where around 95 rapes are reported daily.

Hangings will eradicate India's entrenched rape culture and lack of access to justice for women. Ghastly though these crimes were, there can be no place for capital punishment in any democracy.
ReplyDelete32 million men in India have no girlfriend/wife. Some villages have no women at all bar old mothers, and the men there have no prospect of sharing their lives with a woman. The main reason is abortion of young girls. Couples were encouraged for various reasons to abort a girl and keep a boy. The Chinese done similar. Although I don't condone their acts but is it any surprise these men turn to rape? No wonder the liberal freaks are pushing and promoting the farce that 'men can be women'.....it's their policies after all that are dividing the sexes and the people and screwing everyone's heads up!
ReplyDeleteThe culture of selective sex abortion in India have always been condemned by pro-choice and women's groups as an aspect of Indian patriarchy and its devaluation of women which is such a driver in India's rape culture.
