A pair of American professionals headed by Doctor Nelson Borelli, of Northwestern University in Chicago, USA, will visit and pay their respects to the memory of those in six mass graves marked with stone monuments and consecrated by local priests.
They will pay their respects at the mass grave in Smarmore, Ardee, Co..Louth on Saturday September 7, 2019 at 1 p.m. and that of Mullingar at 2:30 p.m.
Smarmore is four miles SW of Ardee, a few fields from the Meath border. The Mullingar mass grave is on the north bank of the Royal Canal beside where the Delvin Road abuts it.
On Sunday, September 8, at 1 p.m. they will pay their respects at the mass grave at Kilkeevin Cemetery, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.
At 2 p.m. they will pay their respects at the site of Lisnabinnia Village, and at 3 p.m. at Lisnabinnia’s mass grave.
Both Lisnabinnia monuments are in Ballyglass, Ballymoe, Co. Galway. One (for the once-village) is on the Ballymoe/Glenamaddy roadside, the other (its mass grave) a few fields away.
The pilgrimage will end after the 4 p.m. payment of respects at the mass grave in Kilbegnet Cemetery’s later addition. Kilbegnet cemetery is near Creggs, Co. Galway.
The news media and the public are welcome to join the humble American delegation to honor these Irish souls.
