Buncrana Together doesn't think much of Jan O'Sullivan's contribution to the water issue.

Those who have been following Ireland’s controversial Water issue for the past few decades would know about how much EU political interference has been applied to pressurise Ireland into bringing in domestic water metering and charges. They would also know about the slavish willingness of some Government Ministers, mainstream media and individuals to kowtow to Brussels' diktats and even to perhaps misinform the public.

In recent years Ireland’s water issue brought up many examples of this proverbial Irish trait of cap tipping or forelock tugging to foreign masters. However, a recent ‘Joint Committee on Future Funding of Domestic Water Charges’ meeting on the 15th February 2017 showed EU Commissioner, Mr. Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea finger wagging and threatening fire and brimstone on the Irish nation if it did not abide by European Law.

In light of the above we thought it appropriate to remember this memorable event by awarding Jan O’Sullivan, Labour Party, best groveling award for outstanding ability in the field.

Finally all that remains to be said is we must give credit to Minister Simon Coveney for managing, hand picking and directing all parties involved. It goes without saying that the resulting impasse of 10/10 was no coincidence.

Jan O'Sullivan TD asking EU Commissioner, Mr. Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea whether it would be alright if the committee run it's draft report by the EU Commission before presenting it to the Dáil.

  1. I don't disagree with you here. Don't have much good to say about the European Commission's contribution to this debate.

  2. I have heard them called compradors, I have heard them called collaborator treasonous B!s.

Was it in 2012 that the troika threatened the south with a bomb going off in Dublin if the south didn't pay out to gambling bondholders of a bankrupt investment bank, a bank which should have been put into liquidation? Which brings to mind, in the 70s the british pm (government) also alleged to have threatened a fearless Taoiseach with bombs going off in Dublin, should the paddy's down south not concur to british diktat in relation to so called security measures. Imperialists threatening acts of war against a so called sovereign state.

As we know the result on both occasions was capitulation, sometimes also described as weakness of the spine, principle and ideology.

What else can we expect from the established parties in the south who continue to be successful in obtaining their mandate through electoral campaigns of deception, lies of omission and deceit.

One way of combating the so called political elite who sip from the trough of neoliberalism, is people power, feet on the street, hopefully when this domestic water charge is finally put to death, then maybe the ordinary citizen might support a campaign for the building of publically owned social housing.

Alas one thing seems certain to continue, the Groveling politicians of the south will continue to Grovel, will continue with their deception ' ah sure its brussels, there is nothing we can do, we have to do what we are told, (they didn't tell the people that when they deceived them into voting for EU treaties) as long as they get their big pensions, salary and expenses, they will, have and continue to sell out every man, woman and child in the south.

They seem secure in the knowledge and belief, that the human suffering been experienced by ordinary citizens, resulting from their choices of cuts in services, which is widespread in the south, will not be experienced by them, their families or extended families, now or in the future.

It seems, this is the price now been paid by society in the south for a banking bailout, a bailout which saved German, Spanish, Italian, French, British banking systems while also paying out to bondholders who took a gamble and lost, for example HSBC bank who allegedly were fined several million dollars in the US for laundering drug cartel monies were paid as part of the bailout.

Was it Dominique Strauss-Khan, who was later ostracized from the financial elites, who indicated that, in the present system the poor will pay for the greed of the rich and the elites, they always have done and always will do.

From the 1990s report after report have been carried out I relation to water supply. Electoral give away budgets complimented by deregulation of financial and banking systems, were unrelenting, all of which benefitted the rich and elites the most, with under investment in relation to water services during this time, ditto publically owned social housing. The south is allegedly one of the richest countries in Europe, maybe its high time for an ethical tax system to be instated and the Grovelers to be replaced. Hopefully the backlash against DOMESTIC water charges might lead to this.
