We were deeply saddened by the news that our comrade Declan
McGlinchey had passed. Declan was a proud Republican, steeped in a tradition
lived by his mother and father. We send our deepest condolences to his family
and especially his wife Brenda and their children.
Declan always supported the Republican Prisoners and worked
tirelessly to highlight the conditions that we are faced with everyday. He
always had the community at heart and the community was always behind him. He
was terrorised all his life by the British state and yet under this torment and
scrutiny, he resisted and continued the struggle in pursuit of freedom.
He was a revolutionary Republican and Socialist and through
his principles and ideals laid a path that we can walk and a path we must
continue to build. Through his memory and the memory of all our patriots and
martyrs we will evoke a spirit of an ancient and noble legacy of resistance and
with this we will cast out our enemies and restore our nation to its most high
standing among the nations of the earth.
Yes it is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to another
revolutionary, but we who remain, remain committed, we remain resolute in our
stance and we will not tarnish the name of Declan McGlinchey by either
dishonour or cowardice.
Onward to the Republic and may all our brave martyrs rest in
peace.
We will hold a minute’s silence at half-past five this
evening.
