Speaking on behalf of the Derry 1916 Societies Joe Meenan, who’s brother Michael died on active service in 1974, said:

we are gathering to remember with dignity and pride those who gave their lives for Irish freedom, including all those local volunteers who gave their lives for the noble cause of an Irish Republic founded on the principles of the 1916 Proclamation.

Derry 1916 Societies are committed to honouring Ireland’s patriot dead and upholding the Republican Socialist principles of the Proclamation. We have held various recent commemorations over the past year in conjunction with the families of our local patriot dead and will continue to do so. We wish to invite all republicans to join with us this Easter to mark the 99th Anniversary of this revolutionary event in our country’s history.
