Commemoration for Commandment Matt Fitzpatrick
  
This Sunday, 15th February, the Matt Fitzpatrick Society Newtownbutler are holding their annual Commemoration in memory of their namesake – Commandant Matt Fitzpatrick, Oglaigh na hEireann – at his graveside in Drumalee, Co. Cavan.

Matt Fitzpatrick was killed while engaging British enemy forces at Clones Railway Station on Saturday 11th February 1922, in an event recorded in history as the ‘Clones Ambush’.

Assemble at his graveside in Drumalee, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, at 3pm. All welcome.

  1. Would really like to seen more commemorations for all those who were executed by Free Staters during the Irish civil war. They gave their lives for the same reason as those in ‘16 and in the Tan war but bizarrely seem to be forgotten.
