  1. It's from the Belfast Telegraph about the abuse Martin Og Meehan has to put up with and a youtube video that has now been taken down.. I often wonder who has to put up with with the most abuse.. Yourself Anthony or Martin Og..

Online videos help highlight hidden bigotry

"The Druids claimed it had been taken out of context – an old fallback of people caught saying the unacceptable – while the Ardoyne Fleadh organisers described it as sectarian and pledged that it would not be repeated.

Unionists wanted a prosecution, but at least they got an acknowledgment that a line was crossed. It was progress, too, when a less-publicised, but arguably more offensive, rant by loyalists against Martin Og Meehan, the Ardoyne republican, was removed from YouTube following criticisms from other loyalists. Mr Meehan comes from a troubled family background. His father, Martin senior, was the first Provisional IRA member to be jailed and was in and out of jail throughout the Troubles, as well as spending time on the run.

This absence allowed Mr Meehan senior's second wife, Briege, to physically and sexually abuse her stepdaughter, Mary, when she was a young child and her father was in jail.

The whole thing was aired in a sensational prosecution in 2013. Last Sunday, it also erupted onto streets of Belfast, when Martin Og took part in a commemoration march past loyalist counter-demonstrators.

At first, the heckling was political, even sectarian, in tone, but later it took a more personal turn. Mr Meehan was taunted by name about the abuse in the most graphic terms and the whole thing was put up on YouTube. It has now been taken down.

  2. Frankie,

I don't see me and Mairtin Og competing to be the most abused! Each will allow the other to take the title!!

  3. Sometimes I shake my head in disbelief the levels some people go to. Similar to the abuse you and your family had to put up with when you exposed Allison Morris and didn't back down.. Around the same time I was reading Ardoyne Republicans blog and I read a piece that went along the lines like this..

A few yrs back the UVF were making incursions into the Short Strand and a heated debate started between Martin Og and Martin lynch.. Then a resident from the Shorts Strand interupted and started to give Martin Og dogs abuse.. He said something like

"Excuse me but I'm here lending support and trying to diffuse a stiutation.." He then explained to her that Billy McKee did the same to protect St Mathews. The woman resident replied..

    "Who's Billy McKee"...

People can say what they think about the man and what he may or may not have done etc.. but a least he's on the ground trying to sort out a mess that PSF have neglected.

  4. Frankie,

they have accused him of everything, heaped out serious low down personal abuse in a bid to put him off. They have sought to hurt him so that he might take his eyes off the ball to tend to his wounds. But whatever we might think of his views, he has clung to expressing them.

This is what they do. People who question any authority will feel its wrath and vindictiveness. Small wonder people don't want the hassle and use pseudonyms. The problem with that is the argument from the pseudonym rarely gets the same degree of seriousness afforded to it.

DM: And I had been the chair of Sinn Féin in the gaol up until my release in May, 1995 so we were encouraging debate and discussion. ...

Danny Morrison wants the world to think there was a healthy debate going on (still is) and PSF/PRM can accept contructive critism from former Provisional volunteers.

The abuse both of you and your families have to put up with is mind boggling. Personally the minute anyone starts to drag peoples families in an arugment-debate they've lost it in my eyes. The Paul Campbell piece hi-lighted how silly and childish one or two posters are and Carries piece, I think everyone felt her anger as a mother defending her family..

Even Nelson McCausland has a pop at Martin Og..on his blog. This is the same Nelson mcCausland who agreed to the graduated response concerning the Ardoyne/ Twadell dispute by siding with Loyalist gunmen????

I remember reading an 'orbit.' type piece you wrote about bumping into Martin Meehan snr. in Belfast and you both shook hands as friends and comrades even though you both disagreed in the direction the RM was going.. You both respected each others views and you both wished each other well and your familes..

In a nutshell, bring kids into an adult type convo to try to score points becasue you lost the argument, say's alot about the person using kids. At least you both have managed to keep your integrities and your angers in check..
