Sandy Boyer with a brief outline of what Radio Free Eireann is doing this weekend.

This coming Saturday, May 17 from 1-2 pm New York time, Radio Free Eireann will interview leading Irish journalist Suzanne Breen about why Gerry Adams wants everyone to know that the Police Service of Northern Ireland called him an MI5 agent.
We will also interview Seamus Metress PhD who teaches Irish studies at the University Of Toledo about his essential new book The Spirit of Resistance: a History of Physical Force Republicanism in Ireland and America which we will offer as a thank you gift when you contribute $75 to WBAI.

Last week some people who called to make a contribution had trouble getting through. Please be patient, hang on, or call back. Your contributions are absolutely vital to the future of WBAI and Radio Free Eireann.

Radio Free Eireann is heard on WBAI, 99.5 FM and wbai.org on the web where the show is archived for 10 days. We broadcast live from Rocky Sullivan's of Red Hook, 34 Van Dyke Street in Brooklyn. Join us to get your pizza, your politics and your pint.

  3. This was an interesting interview, one thing Suzanne mentioned was that the PSNI questioned Adams about being a tout (an over used word i know). Apparently Adams relayed this at his conference after release. I didnt catch it at the time, and I cant find any reference to a complete transcript. But that was an eye opener.

  5. Cheers Frankie, watched it again and its not there (ffs I feel sick watching that). Seems it was probably in a guardian interview/article he did. This is a killer quote, and like Suzanne im astonished that it wasn’t mentioned more :

The Sinn Fein president notes that detectives questioning him referred to his attendance at paramilitary funerals and his habit of calling IRA members “comrades” as proof he was in the Provisionals.
But then comes a startling sentence: “They claimed I was turned by special branch during interrogation in Belfast’s Palace Barracks in 1972 and that I became an MI5 agent.”

Just to emphasise, the PSNI claimed to Adams he was turned into an Mi5 agent. The police! For what its worth, its probably a big turn off to people who would question his provable record, talk of touts can strengthen Adams if they are left unsubstantiated.

I thought it was the stage managed press conference you couldn't find.... The Guardian piece were he said...

They claimed I was turned by special branch ...He made the same statement in the Belfast Media in Palace Barracks in 1972 and that I became an MI5 agent. And I think the AndyTown News ran a 10 page spread on his arrest..
