  3. From Sandy Boyer

Ivor Bell was denied bail in Belfast this morning. He was charged with aiding and abetting the murder of Jean McConville and membership in the IRA.

"He was refused bail on Saturday after a police officer told the court there was a high risk of him absconding.

A solicitor for Mr Bell told Belfast Magistrates Court his client was not involved in the murder of Jean McConville.

He said the case against him was based on the Boston College tapes and 'the evidence was not credible'.

A police officer, however, said the evidence pointed to Ivor Bell playing a critical role in aiding and abetting in the murder of Mrs McConville.

He said Mr Bell was a frail 77-year-old grandfather who had suffered two heart attacks in recent years as well as having neck and bowel problems."

Radio Free Eireann will cover Ivor Bell's case with Ciaran Mullholland who organized a protest demonstration against his arrest in Belfast today. Ivor
Bell was supposed to be Mullholland's election agent in his independent republican socialist run for the Belfast City Council.

Radio Free Eireann is heard from 1-2 pm Saturdays on WBAI 99.5 FM and wbai.org on the web where it is archived for 10 days. We broadcast live from Rocky Sullivan's of Red Hook 34 Van Dyke Street in Brooklyn.

There is the live link as posted above but unless you catch the show live there seems to be no way of hearing it.

This radio station is referred to frequently here but its like trying to listen down a chimney to a room full of people, I just find it a very obscure reference to a multitude of blogs that are posted on Pensive Quill. Maybe because it is not like a main stream radio station you cannot get playback. In due course the transcript might be posted.
