  1. I wonder will he arrive in his chopper. Dropping out bottles of 'Only our Rivers Run Free' (for a genuine taste of Irish Freedom.

  3. So true, they'll be going all out using the anniversary to raise funds for the (electoral) cause. Was over here for the 25th anniversary but was told they had blankets for sale?! Seen the plates too, how low can they go!

  4. ...a friend of mine,a curator at a local history mueseum, said to me recently, that satire is a terrible
thing, and wud only succeed in arousing in the mob a passion and lust for revenge that would empty the treasuries of rome, but alas,
having returned to work, following an extended x'mas holiday he remarked that the mob had succeeded, not in emptying the treasury, but rather, only in disgracing themselves once again...

  5. How despicable. The only purpose of this function is to try to convince people to financially support them. I only wish the families of the ten hunger strikers would put a stop to this disgracefully staged performance. Don’t the families realize this dog and pony show is not about the 30th anniversary of the hunger strike but all about raising money for “themselves alone”?

  6. I bet 'Big Clint' (michael henry's term of endearment) has perfected the old lasso trick for snapping the dollars out of rich and not so rich American pockets.

  7. Love the bit about 'joining a symbolic protest by refusing the meal' smacks of the sort of hypocricy that underpins 'mainstream republican' thinking.
'You all starve, while the leadership has a slap up carvery in another room' wrapped up in duvets of protest of course.

  8. Would it be naive of me to suggest to anyone who really cares about the hunger strikers, then the best tribute we could give to them and every other republican who layed down their life is to finish the job? its a bit like the royal wedding a golden opportunity to make a load of dosh!

That is the most sensible thing I have read here yet.

  11. AM,
Didn't Frank do time with Hugh Feeney? Do you or anyone else know what ever happened to Hugh?

We worked together in NY on the 10th anniversary of the 1981 Irish Hunger Strike. A few days after the event he was picked up and deported back to Belfast. I ran into him in Amsterdam back in the mid to late 90's where he was managing an Irish bar. About a little over a year ago,I read a notice in the Derry Journal that he was found unconscious in the street and had sustained a serious head wound and was in the hospital. I contacted the Derry Journal to inquire about his condition but no one got back to me. Does anyone know what happened to him? I heard he left PSF in the late 90's? Thank you.

  14. Helen,

I was out with Hugh a few times in Amsterdam when he was managing the bar. We had some great sessions together. The last time I spoke with him was up at a bar in Derry. After that I heard the same thing about him being found unconscious. Don’t know what he is doing now. He had serious misgivings about the direction of PSF but preferred to tell them privately.
