Lasair Dhearg statement on Sinn Féin attending the White House on St Patrick’s Day.

It will come as no surprise to any Irish Republicans or Anti-Imperialists that Sinn Féin announced this week that they are once again going to wine and dine at the White House on St. Patrick’s Day with Genocide Joe Biden.

As the genocide in Palestine continues, its people have repeatedly called for a boycott of anything or anyone providing support to Zionism. Despite this, Sinn Féin have not only ignored, but at times openly opposed these efforts, and in an attempt to impress the US administration, they will now kneel before them in the mansion of Yank imperialism. This, whilst more than 25,000 people have been murdered by Zionists using American supplied weaponry such as the F-16 and F-35 fighter jets that have flattened Gaza. At the same time thousands of men, women and children still remain dead or dying under the rubble of the buildings destroyed by missiles supplied by the people Sinn Féin wish to call friends.

As justification Sinn Féin endlessly repeat the claim that they are talking with the leadership in the Occupied Territories. They are trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes. The so-called 'leadership' that Sinn Féin are in contact with is the Palestinian Authority - lap dogs for the Zionist regime, despised by many in Palestine almost as much as the Zionist occupiers themselves. They are enabling genocide in Gaza by continuing to support the treacherous Oslo accords and the two-state apartheid system that it calls to implement. This is the same Palestinian Authority that on a daily basis shoots its own people for daring to stand up against the Zionist regime, as demonstrated last August when they murdered Palestinians in a refugee camp who rose up. Furthermore, it is the same Palestinian Authority who murdered those protesting against the bombing of a hospital in Gaza by Zionist occupying forces and there are countless other examples.

In the same way, Sinn Féin now not only accept but openly support the British occupation here in the Six Counties which was cemented when they signed up to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Just as the Palestinian Authority interns its citizens on behalf of the Zionist regime, former Republicans in Sinn Féin actively participate in and support the internment and harassment of Irish Republicans in service to the British occupiers.

The decision of Sinn Féin to attempt to disingenuously spin this decision as being justified by their contact with Palestinian leaders is remarkably similar to the narrative they have spun when they shook hands with Charles Windsor, when they welcomed his mother with open arms or any number of countless acts of betrayal against the revolutionary republican struggle over the years - "trust us, we know best".

Palestinian revolutionary Ghassan Kanafani remarked once that Palestinians talking to the Zionist occupier was the equivalent of a conversation between “the sword and the neck” and that he had no recollection of talks “between a colonist case and a national liberation movement”. Perhaps more aptly, he said:

Imperialism has laid its body over the world, the head in Eastern Asia, the heart in the Middle East, its arteries reaching Africa and Latin America. Wherever you strike it, you damage it, and you serve the World Revolution.

Sinn Féin would do well to remember these words when they stand in Washington D.C. this St. Patrick’s Day.
