Anthony McIntyre ☠  This time last week not long after darkness had descended on the town of Drogheda, over a hundred of its citizens gathered in front of the local cathedral, candles in hand.

The candles were symbolic in that their purpose was to shine a light on the darkness that had descended on Gaza in the form of an invading and murderous Israeli army.

IDF could more easily mean Infant Destruction Force than it does Israeli Defence Force. As Taoiseach Leo Varadkar pointed out a fortnight ago, Israel is not engaging in self defence but is exacting revenge, echoing an observation made by Max Hastings fourteen years ago:

Israel exacts a blood price from the innocent of a severity which only tyrannies have historically thought appropriate.

Varadkar's Fine Gael ministerial colleague Simon Harris has called Israeli actions a war on children. The only defensive action that Israel is taking is to parsimoniously allow two fuel trucks a day into the beleaguered Gaza Strip. In doing so it seeks to defend itself against mounting public fury over its war on children.

The IDF specialises in child murder. Those within its ranks with a penchant for infanticide are of the same calibre as Ian Brady, Myra Hindley, Robert Black, Ian Huntley, Beverly Allitt and Lucy Letby, well known English or Scottish murderers of children. All people that the SS Twins, Starmer & Sunak, are proud to stand beside, vigorously opposing every call for their murderous activities to cease. The only politicians in this country seemingly sharing the stance of the SS twins are those Neanderthals within sections of Northern unionism, who revel in the viciousness and vindictiveness of the Old Testament God who frequently handed down orders to massacre children.

The current Israeli assault on Gaza is so reminiscent of the Nazi siege on Leningrad where Hitler's armies sought to starve and bomb into submission the city's inhabitants. The Israelis and Nazis are kindred spirits - sharing the spirit of Übermensch, which defines those it seeks to obliterate as Untermensch. If there are any differences between Nazi Germany and Nazi Israel they are becoming increasingly difficult to see.

At the Drogheda vigil last week, memory not deceiving me, the organiser Stephanie Kirwan made the point that the number of murdered children in Gaza equalled that of schoolchildren in Drogheda. A shuddering statistic.

Of all the Louth TDs, Ged Nash alone spoke at the vigil. In stark contrast to the war mongering British Labour Party leadership, he reiterated calls for a cessation. This came on the back of criticism levelled by Mr Nash at the Israeli Heritage Minister, Amichai Eliyahu, who had called for all Gazans to relocate to either the desert or Ireland. The Labour Party TD dismissed the Israeli fascist as a dangerous madman.

What the fascist outburst from the Apartheid minister signifies is that the strength of the opposition in Ireland to Israeli genocide is so loud that it is being heard and disliked in the highest echelons of the Israeli government. This is what makes vigils like last week's, and the Drogheda rally tomorrow, vitally important.
