Peter Anderson ⚽ I feared for Liverpool ahead of Sunday's North West derby clash with Man U.

How wrong was I? Man U are much improved this season, while Liverpool are on the slide somewhat. I thought Man U would have too much for them, Casemiro, Fernandes and Shaw have looked the real deal this year. On Sunday they were a disgrace to their club. The capitulation at Anfield was epic. I've never in my life seen a Man U side fall apart so spectacularly. And it was beautiful to see. There is not a Man U game that goes by when I don't want to slap Fernandes. He has one of those faces, always gurning, always complaining, thran as fuck, but on Sunday he reached a new low, while wearing the captain's armband no less. Twas a joy to watch. At one point Bajcetic gave him the slip, Fernades tried to hack him down. When that failed he just gave up and started walking. Towel thrown in, from a Man U captain at Anfield.

Shaw was another one. Getting plaudits all season, great World Cup etc, he lost it big time. He should have seen a red card for a nibble at Gakpo, his professionalism right out the window, and defending like Trent A-A at the back post. What happened to him? And he wasn't the only one. Casemiro was a shadow of his fomer self. It was like he had forgotten how to play footy.

I'll not read too much into this result. I expect Man U to bounce back. While Liverpool may kick on, their lack of midfield legs still remains a problem, though it looks likely that they will secure 4th. But however you dress it up, this was an epic disaster for Man U. To lose 7-0 to your bitter rivals is unconscionable. They suffered epic humiliations under Ole, but never this bad. For all their improvement under ten Hag, there is a long way still to go. As discussed before, Anfield is probably the hardest ground in the world to get a result at, many teams fall apart facing Liverpool and their famous 12th man. Real, Barça and City have all conceded 4 goals here in recent years, but seven is beyond the pale.

Another positive on the day for Liverpool was Mo Salah reaching his goal of becoming the Red's EPL top scorer. And what a list it is! Below Salah are Fowler, Gerard, Owen, Mané, Firmino, Suarez and Torres. He scored his 129 Premier League goals in just 205 appearances, which is just incredible. And if Liverpool sort their problems out, there should be a bucket load next season too, because Salah looks to be enjoying playing with Nuñez and Gakpo. There's plenty of goals in the wee man yet.

  1. I turned the match off when Utd went 4-0 down. I think ETH done the right thing when he kept Utd players in the changing room to make them listen to LiVARpool celebrate....

  2. Had FSG replaced 3 creaking midfielders last summer , # 20 might of been heading to Anfield in May . Ipswich beat M U # 6 - 0 in 1980 , they have laost more Prem games to the Reds than to any other club . LFC still have alot of work to do for a top 3 / 4 finish ( starting @ the Cherries early on saturday ) . Big wins V Rangers & the aformentioned didn't translate to similar performances & results in the following weeks . No distractions from other competitions will be a big help .

  3. As awful as the Manc's were absolutely everything came off for Liverpool.

You're right. The first half could've gone either way. Liverpool were lucky to score first, but the manc's capitulation was epic. I hear lots of Man U fans want Fernandes stripped of the captaincy role and that Weghorst touched the Liverpool emblem on the way onto the pitch! Unbelieveable stuff.

    1. A Man Utd goal in the first thirty minutes could easily have produced a different outcome. I think their collapse was more of an attitude problem than a technical one. They expected to win on the back of their recent silverware achievement coupled with Liverpool's drubbing at the hands of Real Madrid. The second goal so early in the second half is what turned the game. ten Haag will get it right for them. They will be a serious title contender next season.

    2. Weghorst did that to wind them up. Backfired like Chernobyl. Picking on Fernandes is daft, it's a team game. And definitely an attitude problem. It's also told everyone how to beat United. Target Shaw, wind Fernandes up and push Fred off the ball.

  5. Now that I've regained my composure and sanity after the Anfield farce, which is what it was☹️ I am looking at things from a partisan point of view. Bouyed by our defeat of Real Betis in the UEFA Cup I took the objective position.
Erik Ten Hag, our manager at Man Utd, has been telling the board, essentially the Glazers, that despite our upturn in performances we still need more players. An out and out number 9, Centre Forwrd, is essential, and I think a Goalkeeper. David De Gea is a good shot stopper and pulls off some brilliant saves, but today that is not enough. The modern game requires a keeper to be able to start an attack from the back. A kind of goalie come sweeper.
This game proved Ten Hags point as the Glazers now must splash the cash, our cash, because, as expected when we do fuck up it is big time. If only it had not happened at their fucking place!!
Yes, the Scousers have done us, unwittingly, a favour.

  6. You wouldn't credit it Anthony. As the late, great Jimmy Greaves said; "funny old game, Saint", to Ian St. John.

  7. Which as well as Everton winning has left us in the relegation more despite that creditable but ultimately futile draw with Brighton. Wtf is the matter with Liverpool, Anthony
