Security Officers United  ๐Ÿ” Press Release.

To whom it may concern:

Security Officers United will be holding a protest at Top Security offices on Tuesday 13 September at 13:00 in Ballymount Dublin to call Top Security and their parent company Morbury Ltd, and Las Security to withdraw their High Court challenge and allow the implementation of the Security Industry Employment Regulation Order (ERO).

Time:13:00 Tuesday 13 September 2022

Place: Westgate Business Park, Ballymount Rd Upper, Ballymount, Dublin 24

Participants: Security Officers, family, trade unionists, and supporters; organized by Security Officers United campaign

Background: Top Security's solicitors took a High Court Challenge blocking the implementation of the new Employment Regulation Order which would have mandated a modest pay rise for the lowest paid security officers in the state. 2022 is a time of record inflation and a cost-of-living crisis for workers. This notoriously low-paid industry. Working Security Officers have waited the length of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis for this ERO. (see Industrial Relations News 30 and 31)

Workers are outraged that these profitable businesses are being put ahead of long-suffering workers. The state and the companies must give the needs of working people equal consideration.

Enough is enough. Our families are suffering increasing hardship. No positive change will come from the High Court challenge for workers. We demand Las and Morbury Ltd/Top Security withdraw the High Court challenge and allow this ERO be signed. It is a poor ERO in the view of this campaign. Security Officers United fight for a higher pay (15 euro base rate) and higher standards for employment in the security sector.

Action: This is our first public protest against the company’s High Court challenge. Security Officers are demanding the 3 companies withdraw the High Court Challenge immediately.

Family of security officers are likely to attend. There will be placards and megaphones and security workers available for interview. Further protests will follow.

Security Officers United: Workers in security began organizing Security Officers United, a worker-led campaign for action, to protest the low wages and the need for a new stronger Employment Regulation Order. We started with a public meeting in February 2022. Security Officers United is open to union and non-union worker participation. We are anti-racist and pro-worker.

Safe to say, this will not be a part of the oppressed proletariat that the Shinners are going to bat for.

Many's a "socialism in one family" is based on this sector of the economy.
