Sunday Independent ✒ Veronica Greenaway was in thrall to the anti-vax idols she let into her home — until Covid killed her husband.

Veronica Greenaway was an anti-vaxxer who for more than a year believed everything she read about Covid-19 on Facebook.

She idolised some of Ireland’s most prolific Covid deniers and allowed anti-vaxxers from both sides of the Border to use her Co Fermanagh home to spread misinformation. She believed the vaccine would kill her and her 77-year-old husband Billy.

Three weeks ago, her husband of more than 40 years and father to their three children did die. But not from the vaccine. He spent weeks in intensive care at South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen after Covid-19 took hold.

He, like his wife, who had the disease at the same time, had refused the vaccination because he was wrongly told it was causing heart attacks and strokes.

Ms Greenaway now says she has learned a hard lesson “in the cruellest manner possible” and blames the anti-vax movement — including suspended Derry GP Dr Anne McCloskey who addressed meetings on her farm — for “brainwashing” the Border region into believing Covid lies.

  1. These anti-vaxxers are a sinister group. They range from the far-right racists and xenophobes who use the pandemic and concerns about the vaccine to gain an audiance, for more dangerous objectives, to religious nutters claiming its Gods will. Then we have those who are genuinely concerned about the dangers, as they feel may exist, of such vaccinations. This last group tend to keep their views to themselves and have no hidden agenda, except to excersise their right not to be injected. That view is fair enough, nobody should be forced to be jabbed. The other two groups who call themselves anti-vaccine, anti-face mask are far more dangerous. Do not listen to these political undesirebles whose gatherings, on occassions have started out pushing the anti-vaccine agenda, fair enough, free speech and all that, only then to shift ground to offensive anti-immigrant rantings. Any group which has to gain an audiance through making people attend under false pretences say a lot about themselves. As for the religious nutters, they'll always be here alas. From the Black Death back in the fourteenth century these people went round flogging themselves to death, apparently to appease God!!🙃🤔🤭😂🤣

    1. Not all of them though Caoimhin, a very good friend of mine refuses to get vaxxed not because he believes they don't work just that there's a better way for him. He's a high functioning autistic who pours over science papers and worked out the SARS vector. He then put together a first response plan to eliminate it if he contracts it. He's even convinced me to follow his protocol and i've 3 vax and the flu shot!
