Anthony McIntyre ✒ During the week an Ian Brady-like member of Islamic State supposedly collapsed in a German court upon learning that he had been sentenced to life after becoming the first monster to be convicted of genocide against the Yazidi in Iraq,

Shielding his face behind a folder in court the monster sought to run away from the hideousness of his crimes. It seems the only thing this particular theocrat was capable of standing up to was a five year old child and her enslaved mother.

ISIL entered Sinjar changing the lives of thousands of people. To date 200,000 Yezidis remain displaced having lost love ones, their homes and livelihoods. ISIL killed 5,000 Yezidi men and enslaved 7,000 Yezidi women.

In May this year the Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da'esh/ISIL (UNITAD) found that:

A full scope of criminality is displayed in the awful criminality of Daesh against the Yazidi community ... Executions, slavery, sexual slavery. Crimes against children that are horrific, and really chill one’s soul, that how on earth could such things be allowed to happen. Yet they did.

Taha Al-Jumailly was a willing participant in such savagery. He was further convicted of crimes against humanity, war crimes, aiding and abetting war crimes and bodily harm with fatal consequences. Amongst the more grotesque of his activities was the murder of a five year old girl known as Reda. Prosecutors claimed at the earlier trial of his wife:

After the girl fell ill and wet her mattress, the husband of the accused chained her up outside as punishment and let the child die an agonising death of thirst in the scorching heat.

That was the sum total of the child's offence against his religion. Compared to the burnings perpetrated by medieval Christians, the fate of Reda was more prolonged and wicked. What incomprehensible thoughts could have been racing through the mind of a five year old child slowly being tortured to death by the adherents of Hate Theology, is unfathomable. And they had the brass neck to label the Yazidi as devil worshippers.

Reda's mother, Nora, was represented by human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, and testified at the trial of both monsters. Clooney had for long lobbied for ISIS crimes against the Yazidi to have the imprimatur of genocide stamped upon them. The mother and child had been purchased as household slaves by the sadistic couple.

Al-Jumailly subsequently took the woman and her daughter to his household in the Iraqi city of Fallujah and forced them to “keep house and to live according to strict Islamic rules”, while giving them insufficient food and beating them regularly to punish them, according to the indictment levelled against him.

The wife, or witch, of Taha Al-Jumailly, Jennifer Wenisch - a convert to Islam in 2013 - was found guilty of allowing the same child to perish and crimes against humanity. She had been part of the ISIS morality police, patrolling:

parks in Fallujah and Mosul, armed with an assault rifle and a pistol as well as an explosive vest. Prosecutors said she was looking for women who did not conform with the jihadist group’s strict dress code.

Clearly, a morality that can advance humankind is not to be found in the religious texts of theocrats nor in the minds of those who espouse Hate Theology.

Nadia Murad a Yazidi human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner said:

Those of us who were there -- who ran for our lives to the protection of Mount Sinjar, who heard the gunshots as men and older women were shot and dumped into mass graves, and who, like me, were sold into sexual slavery -- cannot forget what happened or how the world ignored our cries for help.

  1. I hope this bastard dies in prison as I hope the killers of Arthur Labingo-Hughes do as well.

  2. To quote Bernadette Devlin Hell is not hot enough nor eternity long enough to punish these two for their crimes.

I generally believe that nobody should be sentenced to the rest of their lives in prison, and I'm against the death penalty, but this is fiercely challenging these positions.
