Peter Anderson ⚽ What a weekend of footy in the EPL. The three favourites for the title put on awesome displays of dominance at the weekend and now occupy the top three spots.

I fully expect no other team to now get into the top three until the end of the season. West Ham replaced Brighton in fourth and look favourites to take the last ECL spot, but I don't see them threatening for the title.

First up at the weekend was Chelsea against bottom of the table Norwich. Even though they were without Lukaku and Werner, their preferred front two, they blew the minnows away in a display of power and precision. 7-0 was the final score and it probably should have been a lot more.

Next was City away to the fourth placed team Brighton & Hove. On paper this was a tricky away fixture for Pep's team, but in reality it was a stroll in the park. City went into the break winning 0-3 after an awesome performance from the champions. Two goals from Foden and one from Gundogan were the least City deserved. Brighton came out fighting and managed to score a late penalty, after which City just shut up shop and played keep ball until they managed to get another in injury time. The game finished 1-4.

Liverpool were the last of the three to play and had easily the hardest game, away to Man U. A tie which is notorious for going against form. Could Man U do what they have done so many times and spoil Liverpool's day? Could they heck! Liverpool blew them away despite not being at their very best. That man Salah was at his work again, combining his impeccable work ethic with his ability to punish, and Liverpool got their best away win against their fiercest rivals.

It really was embarrassing for Man U and you would almost feel for the fans if they hadn't topped it the knob so much when Ferguson was in charge. Their next two fixtures are away to Spurs and then home to City so they need to bounce back from this quickly or they could be out of the race for fourth before Christmas. As I've stated before, with Ole at the wheel they will never win the EPL. He just ain't in the same class as Klopp, Pep and Tuchel.

It is just too early to say which of those three maestros will lift the EPL trophy at the end of the season. My favourites remain Chelsea, there is just something about Tuchel. I think they have more to offer, he still hasn't perfected his attack. Werner and Havertz aren't scoring and Lukaku has dropped off, yet still they are top. While Liverpool's bench remains weak, you can't write them off either. If they lose Salah or VvD they will struggle, but while those two are fit they are more than capable. Let's hope that all three are still in the reckoning come April and give the EPL the finale it deserves.

  1. 2.30 pm Tues ; I can't believe O g s is still @ Old 🚽 .
Utd will grab fourth, provided they appoint a Conte like boss.
It will take circa 95 points to win the 🏆, I see three teams breaking 90 ( first time ever ) . Every game is " must win ".

  2. Mason Mount deserves a nod, he's starting to find his feet this season.

    1. was there ever a time he did not look assured?
      Chilwell also.
Tuchel is a canny coach and is putting together a formidable squad.

    2. He had a bit of a wobble after the summer but TT is up there with Klopp in his man management skills. But we are Chelsea, only ever 3 losses away from the sack.

    3. They all have wobbles. I dislike that practice at Chelsea. Lampard might have become a great manager under a different owner and given more time. He came too early. Which is why I think Gerrard will get a few years managing abroad under his belt before he moves to run Liverpool.

    4. I don't like it either. But being in the vein of the Stalin school of Officer Motivation seems to bring results!

Lampard needs to get on top of his interpersonal skills, from what I heard he was a grey man around the place at times.

Gerrard is going nowhere for a few years then I agree, he'll maybe go to Dortmund or similar with a good youth set up before back at Anfield.
