Frankie Quinn with a poem from his book Open Gates.

Tom Williams

Williams walks a dead man.

Freedom begrudged by

Fifty-three years of incarceration

In a barbed wire grave.

Fifteen heads point towards Crumlin’s

Unforgiving road,

Names forgotten,

Yours rebellious still.

♜ ♞

Pierrepoint’s noose couldn’t strangle what

Lives within you.

Many people have walked your road

Gaining strength to overcome your

Hangman’s faithful friends.

⏩ Frankie Quinn is a former republican prisoner who is now a community activist. He is the author of Open Gates, a book of poetry.
