She examines the use of tear gas from the battlefields of WWI to the streets of colonial India, and from the Bogside in Northern Ireland to the umbrella protests in Hong Kong.
Drawing from military, colonial and science archives, including the Himsworth papers from Wellcome Collection, this talk will explore the science of policing with tear gas over the past 100 years—and the politics that surrounds it.

Dr Anna Feigenbaum is an Associate Professor in Communication and Digital Media at Bournemouth University. She is the author of Tear Gas: From the Battlefields of WWI to the Streets of Today.
