People are asked to wear a mask in public spaces for public hdealth reasons; reasons that are even more starker as Covid-19 infections are once again rising exponentially.
Dress code imposition on Muslim women in Frasnce and in Muslim majoroty countries have nothing to do with public heaqlth and everytnhing to do with abuse of civil liberties in the name of cultural intolerance; in the case of France a grotesque interpretation of laicite or seculafrisation; in Saudi Arabia, Iran etc the imposition of religious fundamentalism and patriarchal mores.
Former IRA volunteer and ex-prisoner, spent 18 years in Long Kesh, 4 years on the blanket and no-wash/no work protests which led to the hunger strikes of the 80s. Completed PhD at Queens upon release from prison. Left the Republican Movement at the endorsement of the Good Friday Agreement, and went on to become a journalist. Co-founder of The Blanket, an online magazine that critically analyzed the Irish peace process. Lead researcher for the Belfast Project, an oral history of the Troubles.
The world has gone mad.
