From Extra.ie a question about the hatred shown towards the young Swedish climate activist, Greta Thunberg. Written by Kiara Keane.

Last Monday morning, Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg gave what’s likely to go down as a history-making speech at the UN headquarters in New York and almost immediately faced a wave of online hate.

‘How dare you. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,’ Greta told world leaders, holding back tears.

But instead of praising the young climate activist for standing up and trying to make a difference, hateful comments from trolls and climate change deniers alike began to roll in from around the world …

Even US President Donald Trump mocked Greta’s speech, tweeting that she ‘seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!’

So what is it about this 16-year-old girl trying to kickstart a climate revolution and save the planet that instils such a venomous rage in certain people?

Why Is There So Much Hate For Greta Thunberg?

  1. Who remembers 15 yr old Nayirah al-Ṣabaḥ? In 1991 she gave a speech to the UN, like Greta cried when reading from her script. Greta should go back to school and get herself educated and who ever is pulling her strings and pre programming her to speak should do real jail time. In my honest opinion she has been given the MK-Ultra mind control treatment (or some 21st C version). If Greta had of come from some war zone and left an orphan because the UN didn't protect her family, sex trafficked by members of the UN and said....

“How dare you. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words”

She would have my vote. But Greta comes from middle class Sweden. The whole event was like a bad 'B' movie. The short version is the climate has been changing since day 1. It will always change until the Sun calls it a day. Are humans a messy bunch? Yes. But we have very little affect on things and we effect things even less.

  2. a speech to the UN (Fcuked up the link)...

Nayirah al-Ṣabaḥ (Arabic: نيره الصباح‎), called "Nurse Nayirah" in the media, was a fifteen-year-old Kuwaiti girl, who alleged that she had witnessed the murder of infant children by Iraqi soldiers in Kuwait, in verbal testimony to the U.S. Congress, in the run up to the 1991 Gulf War. Her testimony, which was regarded as credible at the time, has since come to be regarded as wartime propaganda.
