When Chelsea released leaked classified information to WikiLeaks she was serving the whole of humankind and not the narrow US political, military and business elites who benefited from the Iraq and Afghan wars. The material included video of the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike which killed eight innocent men, including a Reuters correspondent. (If you look at the video below you can see it was cold blooded murder) and the 2009 Granai airstrike in Afghanistan. In all 251,287 U.S. diplomatic cables; and 482,832 Army reports were released, they came to be known as the Iraq War Logs and Afghan War Diary.
Chelsea should have been awarded the Medal of Honor for it was the documents and video she released which finally exposed the US military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan as the worst foreign policy disaster since Vietnam. Instead she received a 35-year sentence at the maximum-security U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. Hard time by anyone's standards.
On the same day, the anti-Gaddafi era dissident Abdel Hakim Belhadj has been granted permission by the UK Supreme Court to sue the former British foreign secretary Jack Straw and Mark Allen, the former head of MI6, for his extraordinary rendition and torture. Straw an especially odious man lied through his teeth about the UK's involvement in Rendition time and again.
As I wrote above, Wednesday was a good news day.
