From Rags To Racism

Local Louth historian Brendan Matthews writes: 

Our Gerry had a good point, if only he actually had gone on to express it! The enclosed is taken from a British rag of the 19th century.

The Irish and the Black are compared as equally problematic to the North and the South respectively.  Notice how both are drawn to look less human:

  1. Does Brendan Matthews mean the north and south of Ireland, the UK or USA, i'm presuming it wasn't Ireland as it had not yet been partitioned.
