The family and friends of Volunteer Jim Moyne – Derry Brigade Oglaigh na hEireann – are holding an Independent Commemoration early next month in Derry City to mark the 40th Anniversary of his death in Long Kesh.
Jim Moyne died on 13th January 1975 while interned without charge, as a result of persistent medical neglect within the prison. Following his death the state and prison authorities set about covering up the circumstances of his death. His inquest was a whitewash and its outcome a continuing injustice.
The commemoration, organised by the Moyne Family, will take place at 7.30pm on 13th January 2015, at the Bogside/Brandywell monument in the city. It will be led by the family with contributions from his comrades.
The family encourage all who knew Jim, those who would like to pay tribute to his sacrifice and those who wish to extend solidarity at this important time to join them on the evening.
