Protecting the Water of Life from the Pollution of Profit

TPQ carries a Press Statement from  Right2Water Protest March.

On Sat 1st Nov a Right2Water protest march will take place in Drogheda, Co.Louth. The planned event which is one of many around the country is in conjunction with the very successful march that was held in Dublin on 11th Oct last. Spokesman and one of the Organisers, Anthony Connor, said that after the success of the Dublin protest march the decision was taken to hold similar marches in every county in Ireland.

Large numbers are expected, with 1, 600 people confirming on the Facebook page alone that they are going. We hope it will be the biggest march Drogheda has ever seen.

We need to send a clear and decisive message to our Local Minister, TD’S and Councillors that the water charges are a step too far and are going to push some people to the brink. Anthony Connor also stated that we already pay for our water, we pay €1.2 Billion per year for water through taxation and as it stands we have the most expensive water in Europe also we were all lead to believe that The Local property tax was levied to cover local services’- is water not a local service?

The planned route for the Protest March: Assembling O' Raghallaighs GFC on the North Road, Drogheda, at 1.30pm. The route will then go down the North Road, across the bridge of peace, pass McDonalds, over the Haymarket Bridge, along Wellington Quay, up Dominic Street, across West Street to finally Congregate at St. Peter’s Church.

Anthony Connor also said a safety statement is available upon request and we are working closely with the Gardai and all other local services to ensure the smooth running of the March. There will be live music and a few speakers on the day in what promises to be a family orientated protest march.
