Radio Free Eireann will discuss the Peter Taylor BBC
documentary Who Won The War this Saturday October 4th at 1pm New York
time. We will interview Ed Moloney, author of A Secret History of the
IRA and Gerard Hodgins, a former IRA volunteer and hunger striker.
Hodgins told Peter Taylor that it was the British government and the Unionists
who won the war.
We will also talk to Eamonn McCann about the recent
Belfast Telegraph that only 7% of Catholics in the North would vote
for a United Ireland. We'll ask what this means for Sinn Fein's call for
a referendum on Irish unity.
Next week, on Saturday October 11, Radio Free Eireann will
be asking you to contribute to keep WBAI and Radio Free Eireann on the air. If
you can contribute $75 we will thank you with a DVD of the documentary
Voices from the Grave which profiles the legendary IRA commander
Brendan Hughes and David Ervine of the UVF.
Radio Free Eireann is heard on WBAI 99.5 FM and wbai.org on the web where shows are archived for 90
days.
I just watched that Peter Taylor documentary.
ReplyDeleteThere was a few things I took from it.
Firstly I thought that for 58 minutes the programme was biased towards the British/ Unionist side.
I say this based on the fact that Peter Taylor points to Bloody Friday as been the cause belli of Unionists joining Unionists terror gangs.
This ignores the facts of Gusty Spence and 1966 and the reformation of the UVF.
Very sickening of the BBC to engage in this lie.
The British have always felt to protray the conflict as a sectarian war..In order to protray themselves as the "good guys" and this programme supports this narrative.
The only redeeeming factor in this show. Was the final minute.
And in this final minute , which gave me a huge insight into what I think is the real agenda of this programme.
I already mentioned that it supports the Unionist/ British narrative at the expense of the Republican cause but that is just par of the course.
The Real agenda behind this Peter Taylor show , is that I think he believes a United Ireland is on the way and that this programme was a lesson to Unionists, so as not to engage in violence when this happens.
I don't think Peter Taylor likes Gerry adams too much , So I think he is a bit sad to state that he believed a United Ireland will happen.
Of Course I could be wrong, He could be telling lies about him believing a UI was going to happen to pacify Republicans. But I am not sure he would be that deceitful. As that would only wind up Unionists.
So, in my view I was happy with the show, because I believe the entire point of the show was a subtle hint or warning to Unionists. Don't engage in a war against the upcoming UI. The costs are not worth the price of admission. I think Unionists are too dumb to get the message from this show and in that way. However I am NOT saying they are too dumb overall.
The people won't take kindly to more conflict;in any event.
In that sense the IRA campaign succeeded. If/ When a UI does come. People will be so sick of violence that any unionist backlash is just barstool talk. And Nowt will come of it. Because nobody will want it. Having already experienced it.
nobody who has lived through war will be able to talked into going through it again.
So, Any chance of anybody in Unionist political circles abandoning their ideology of Unionism? and to join in with their fellow Irish citizens and getting on a plane to Washington and really working that Irish American connection to get federal dollars for a 32 County Irish state ( Israel gets $3 Billion per year)
Before the Hipanics displace the Irish American Lobby.
Because that is the only victory that Unionism can achieve.
They can delay the creation of a UI, but NOT stop it completely; until the demographic changes in America will result in the Irish having naff all chance to flex it's muscles and gain federal dollars to build a New Ireland. What a maginifcant Ideology that is. eh?
Reason number # 156 to like Unionism.
They will fail to secure the Union . But when a UI does happen there will be no Irish American lobby worth talking about.
Time for a change lads.
" any unionist backlash is just barstool talk".
