  1. Far be it from me to defend any book of faith, but this is not what it says. It just says that for the first three years the fruit is forbidden. No threats of a pit of fire, in this section anyway. It’s just good gardening advice. There are various translations of this, the King James Version being the most entertaining:

    'And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised: three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.'

    I do hope those poor bananas are given proper medication before the deed is done.

    In the interests of research I read a few more verses and found the following:
    'And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.'

    Which just goes to show that you can find just about anything in there if you wish. It’s a mass of contradictions.
