Republicans To Remember Jeff McKenna This Saturday In Monaghan

The 1916 Societies with news of a commemoration this weekend in Monaghan.

On Saturday 5th November, the family of Jeff McKenna, in conjunction with the James Connolly Society Monaghan, are holding a commemoration for their brother, a Sinn Féin worker who died following a hit-and-run incident in Dublin on November 8th 1982.

Originally from Augher in Co. Tyrone, Jeff joined the Republican Movement as a teenager and was in time recruited into the local structures of Óglaigh na hÉireann.

Forced to go on the run in the late 1970s, following an IRA operation in the Clogher Valley area being intercepted by British Crown Forces, he eventually moved to Dublin, where he was to meet his untimely death.

Jeff is remembered as an especially hardworking republican and his dedication to the cause of Irish Freedom will never be forgotten by those who knew him as a friend and comrade.

Fuair se bhás ar son saoirse na hÉireann – ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Assemble at 3pm at Clara Graveyard on the Tyrone-Monaghan border, where a short Wreath laying Ceremony will take place, with refreshments served afterwards.
