Sandy Boyer, an indefatigable advocate of free inquiry, died last night in New York after a short illness.

Sandy was co host on Radio Free Eireann. Transcripts of his interviews with guests featured regularly on TPQ.

That silenced voice, that empty chair .... a loss to freedom of expression and public understanding that those of us who worked with him will need time to both measure and contemplate.

We at TPQ are deeply saddened by his death.

  1. He was very attuned to what was below face level politics in Ireland and had the acumen to put together a collection of broadcasts from different guests whose voices ought to be heard and not silenced. He will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

  2. Christy,

    very much so.

He will very much be missed.

He would visit us in Springhill when he was over as he frequently was. Unassuming, no airs and graces but acutely sharp. Never doctrinaire he nevertheless always managed to be on the right side of the barricade. Or perhaps the left side would more accurately capture his essence. Before all else, Sandy was a hard nosed left thinking activist with little time for myths.

  4. Really saddened to hear of sandy's passing RIP. One the few genuine American figures who cared deeply about not only his own community there a chara but also those who face the injustices of sectarianism political policing and imprisonment in the Occupied Six Counties! Sandy epitomised Socialist Republicanism altogether and my sympathies to his Clann Agus Chairde. Oiche Mhaith.
