Commdt. Matt Fitzpatrick Commemoration This Sunday In Drumalee

The 1916 Societies with an announcement of a commemorative event this weekend.

This Sunday, 7th February, the Matt Fitzpatrick Society Newtownbutler are holding their annual Commemoration in memory of their namesake – Commandant Matt Fitzpatrick, Oglaigh na hEireann – at his graveside in Drumalee, Co. Cavan.


Matt Fitzpatrick was killed while engaging British enemy forces at Clones Railway Station on Saturday 11th February 1922, in an event recorded in history as the ‘Clones Ambush’.
